Some state it's an anagram for "anodes," proof that effective earth powers surge and swirl around red stone canyons and spires. In fact, Sedona is the name of a lady, one of the initial leaders drawn to exactly what was once a separated, tough land, where carving a life from the rocky dirt indicated effort and even heartbreak.

Sedona's red rock nation is a place of intensely blue skies, greens of every shade, and reds and golds from the palest peach to deep vermilion. The vivid buttes, spires, and canyons are created from the southern side of the Colorado Stage, a vast upland extending around the Four Corners area of the Southwest. The southern edge of the plateau, the Mogollon (muggy-own) Rim, forms the escarpments to the north and eastern of Sedona.

From the Rim, rugged canyons extend like fingers. One, the canyon of Oak Creek, puncture a 2,500-foot geological layer cake on its 12-mile length, uncovering the energy and greatness of a living, transforming earth. For beyond what 300 million years, this land has been formed by seas, deserts, swamps and excitable flows.

Much of red stone nation is public land, part of the Coconino National park, three wilderness locations and two state playgrounds. Sparkling Oak Creek, supplied by springtimes and snowmelt from the higher country, attracts human beings and wildlife alike to its rich financial institutions.

Seasons add assortment, with springtime wildflowers, flourishing summer season storms, autumn's gold, and winter's snow and fog. The mild environment makes it possible to enjoy the organic setting year round.

Sedona isn't as strong as the Sonoran Desert, an hour to the south, neither as vast as the Grand Canyon, 3 hours to the north. Here, the garden is human-scaled, friendlier, welcoming exploration. And here, explorers will locate impressive contrasts: Transient falls topple down large stone walls after a rainfall, after that vanish in the sun. Fragile wildflowers burst from rough protrusions. Village beauty glimpses out between advanced hotels and fine art galleries. You could direct your feet to the local climbing trail or manage them to a reflexology therapy. Watch dusk from a rough cliff, or while savoring Southwest cuisine at a sophisticated restaurant.
Sedona - the word itself seems like a beckoning murmur, mystical, meaning tricks.
Sedona is an unique, also unusual, area comprised of healers and applicants, outdoor fanatics and senior citizens, cowboys and Indians (both genuine and wannabe). What they all have in common is "Red Rock Fever." Who wouldn't be contaminated by the whimsy of places named Rabbit Ears or Merry-Go-Round, or by the majesty and puzzle of a Basilica Rock?

Those who take time to explore are rewarded by panoramic vistas at almost every turn. However be cautioned: Photographs can not capture the sensations influenced by a hawk's reflecting weep or the view of an ancient town put into sandstone niche.
